-- KNC Tech 128MB USB Smart Drive
-- Price: ~$99.00 USD
-- Page: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9

Data on the go has been pretty popular lately.  With CD-Rs and Compact Flash cards as common as floppies were, storage is more abundant than ever.  With nearly all PC sold in recent years, USB access is common place.  With that in mind, small storage has been utilizing the USB interface as its preferred medium.

KNC Technologies Smart Drive offers various sizes of small portable data storage from 16MB to 1GB!  All that space and it still fits in your pocket.

The unit we received was the 128MB version.  The package comes with the drive itself, a business card CD with Win98/ME drivers, USB extension cable and a cloth necklace.

The beauty of this unit is that is it does not require drivers when used in Windows 2000 and above.  All drivers are already included in the operating system.  Once plugged in, it will show up in your drive listing as a Mass Storage Device.  I did notice that the drive itself was not listed as 128MB, rather 123MB.  I'm assuming the missing 5MB is for the built in drivers  If you are using Windows 98/Me, the business card sized CD provides the drivers needed.

Once plugged into the port, it will light up green if functional.

There is a USB extension cable included.  This greatly reduces the constant strain to squeeze yourself behind your computer to find the USB port.

I have been using this for a week now, dragging and dropping files to and from work.  It provides more space than a floppy and is easier to carry than a CD-R.  Definitely a great stocking stuffer.
