-- Vantec Vortex Hard Drive Cooler
-- Price: $39.99 USD
-- 11.05.2003

The Vortex is made out of machined aluminum, and will blend in very nicely with any silver or brushed aluminum case.  You might be tempted to install a window on the top of your case just to show off the Vortex sitting in the top bay.

The front panel is very simple, yet stylish.  It isn't cluttered or obtrusive.  Also note while Vantec has put their logo on the front, they didn't do some kind of ridiculously large or intrusive sticker that makes it look more like an advertisement than an actual product.

Looking in the back you can see the mounting pads, the molex connector for the fan, and the package of screws and extra filters.  You can also see the walls are quite thick and very, very strong.  The entire thing has a solid feel to it,  yet it's surprisingly light.

To insert a hard drive, you simply remove the two screws on each side, and the top panel lifts off, revealing the fan and mounting tabs.

Vantec did not use a traditional fan with the Vortex, opting to use a quieter, more efficient, and effective crossflow blower.  Unlike a traditional fan, the crossflow does not have a dead spot, and moves air along the entire surface of the hard drive, rather than just one spot.  This provides much better performance than your typical hard drive cooling solution.
