Once powered up, you can adjust your settings for the four separate
uses: TV, digital TV, PC and OSD. For the impatient there is an
Auto touch button on the front panel to make all the necessary
adjustments for you automatically. Picture in picture, channel
and caption options are all located on these on screen controls.

Lets get a general feel of the picture
quality of the 171MP using various different connection methods.

RCA

Coax

S-Video
Overall, the picture quality is best
using the S-Video option. All the above shots were taken using
the same digital box. Lets see how it fairs with the PC.

Compared to the previous model, the PC
quality seems a bit washed out. Some adjustments to brightness
and contrast made it better but with fast action and movement,
ghosting or blurring was seen.
While in PC mod, you may opt for the
PIP feature which lets you watch your TV input while operating your
computer. The PIP function is taken care of by the LCD, there
are no extra software you need to install to make this work.
The PIP window can change in size through the on screen controls.

In conclusion, the 171MP delivers one
of the most feature packed LCD units to market. With RCA,
S-Video, PC and TV Tuner capabilities, not many models can match it
in usage. The picture quality is only as good as the medium
you use to deliver it. Even at coax, the image is clear enough
to enjoy from a few feet away.
The built in stereo speakers are more than
adequate at normal sound levels. At higher levels there were
some extra noise, but it should not pose a problem since we turned
it up to the max. Not too many people view their television
programming that way.
This model is a definite recommendation
if you are in the market for an all in one solution. If this
was available back then in college, space limitations would have
been less of a problem. The price of the unit may scare off a
few people, but if you factor in all the options you are receiving
in the 171MP, the benefits out weigh the costs.
