-- Initial Testing
-- Page: 1 2 3

Our tests will utilize Nero's suite of programs.  This includes CD Speed, DVD Speed, CD DAE and Nero Burning Rom itself.  The unit was installed in the following:

  • P4 2.4B @ 3.06Ghz
  • Samsung 512MB PC2700 DDR
  • Asus P4B533 Motherboard
  • Windows XP Professional SP1

The first test will be a overall read test using CD Speed. The average read speeds are lower than what is labeled, but I've found that in real world testing, most of the time this happens.  Seek times are on par as well as DAE quality.  I did notice that it required a huge amount of CPU processing power during this test.

Using DVD Speed, I used a 4GB DVD for our testing purposes.  The posted read speeds are again lower than the labeled speed.  CPU utilization was lower compared to the previous CD Speed test.

The last test before we go ahead with our burn tests, is the DAE extraction speeds.  A 17 track CD was used along side with the CD DAE program.  Total time for extraction was 5 minutes and 30 seconds, with an ending speed of 32.6X.  Not too bad, error % was present, but not high enough to cause any issues.
