A few months ago we reviewed the Samsung SP40004H
and was impressed with its performance. So when Samsung asked
us if we wanted to review their new 80GB hard drive we couldn't
refuse.
 
In the P40 line of hard drives Samsung has incorporated
Acoustic Management through the use of their NoiseGuard™Acoustic
Noise Suppression Technology and their SilentSeek™ Technology to
bring their 7200 RPM hard drives down to 5400 RPM noise levels.
Since most of the noise is generated from the motor and
the sensor, Samsung has targeted these two areas to work on, when
implementing its NoiseGuard™ technology. Here's a picture of

This information in regards to noise levels
helped Samsung to move ahead and include NoiseGuard. What it
really is, is replacement of material that makes up the hard
drive. Different materials were used until the best noise
absorbing was found. This included the motor and also the hard
