-- Installation Continued

With one drive working, we should get the second drive working as well since it is in the carrier. I go into my box of extra cables and pull out another rounded UV cable. I want to make sure that both connectors are able to reach, so I plug this into the mother board secondary IDE channel and plug both into the back plane.

I once again power the machine back up. All 3 of the LED are green now, so I log into the machine.

I check Windows Explorer expecting to see another drive added to the list of drives in my computer, but I'm missing one. So back to the drives to re-check them.  I pull out the drive that is not showing up and double check to make sure that it is set to slave, and it was.

I check the user guide provided by Enhance Technology, under the section for installing hard drives it gives a quick run down. #7 states "Set the hard drive's jumper setting to master (consult your hard drive user manual)." This is half way through the guide and the last page of text; rest of the user guide is mainly pictures.  Strange but that's what the manufacturer wants.

I tested the system with Sandra Soft checking speeds on the drive before I put in the RAID card (Adaptec 1200A).

At this point, I installed the RAID Card to make sure everything is operational and to set it to RAID 0. I like having large amounts of HD space, useful for backing up purposes. Plus, everyone always wants more speed out of his or her systems and RAID 0 can provide the boost.

Once I made sure the second drive was set to master, I reconnected everything and powered up the computer once again. All of the drives are there this time, success!
