As we always stress here at GT, the most important
part of a computer system is the case. Without it, our parts
would be all over the place and would be quite unorganized.
Now with that in mind, we've been hacking away at cases to make them
perform as well as their visual aspects. It makes no sense to
make it look great, but suck hard in the cooling department right?
You can go ahead and build your dream machine from
the ground up, or go ahead and purchase a pre-modified case.
The latter example has been gaining popularity due to the fact that
modifying these cases cost quite a bit of money to start off.
You definitely need the right tools and that can cost upwards in the
hundreds. So in comes a few retailers who heard these pleas,
one of them being 3DCool.
Based in Rochester, NY (go upstate NY!), they have
been using the slogan "Freezing Computers World Wide"
since April of 1999. They have lots of case accessories that
cater to the overclocker and case modder. One of these items,
is their line of Hellstorm cases. These pre-modified beauties
have been engineered to be the best in cooling. One feature
that definitely shouldn't be missed, is the use of automotive paint
to finish off their cases. We're going to be taking a look at
the Hellstorm 2000, a completely modded case based on the Inwin full
tower.
The Hellstorm 2000

We chose a nice bright yellow finish for our
sample. You don't see too many yellow cases nowadays.
I immediately noticed the incredible finish
on this case. Rub your hand on a brand new car, that's the same
feeling you get with this case. The shine is incredible, you can
see the reflection of wall on the finish in the above picture.
On the instruction sheet that came with the
case, it is said that the paint can take up to 90 days to fully
dry. In that time frame, just take a damp cloth to wipe down the
case if it gets dirty. After the initial 90 days, you can then go
ahead and wax it to keep the finish like brand new. Works just
like a car, use Meguires wax, real good stuff.
The overall color scheme of the case is
yellow and black. The power button, which is located right next to
the floppy drive, is painted black. As well as the reset button
underneath the case badge. The case itself is really an Inwin
Q500, which by itself is already a solid case. I use one myself.
Even the feet are black!
