Major Slot1 HS Battle

This is not probably a major Slot 1 battle, more
like the battle between the best and the most economical heatsink.
We pit the enormous Alpha P3125 versus ThermalTakes Slot 1 Golden
Orb versus the lowly retail Intel heatsink and fan. How do
these stack up with each other? Does it pay to pay more for the
Alpha? How does the cheaper Golden Orb do? Lets find out...

Slot 1 HeatSinks
First off, I would
like to thank the kind folks over at SubzeroPC
for providing us with the Golden Orb and the Alpha. They had
the confidence of providing me with these items for review, many
thanks guys! They've got a great selection of other things at
very reasonable prices, so go check them out! Tell them I sent ya :
)
The way I conducted
the test was to slap the heatsinks on and test them at regular idle
temperatures and at full load temperatures. When at full load
I mean having Prime95 and RC5 running in the background and have
3DMarks2000 running also for a while. All the temperatures
were calculated using Motherboard Monitor.
I use the thermal
grease supplied with the Alpha on the tests conducted with the
Golden Orb and the Alpha:

I left the
thermal pad on the retail heatsink since it was a big pain in the ass
to remove. Plus, I wanted to show the major improvement grease
had over pads (I hope).
