We will only be testing this unit with other copper
heatsinks. They will also be using the same Delta fan
throughout the testing to ensure a fairness due to fan speed and
whatnot.
Note: We have since changed our temperature
measuring from using the onboard sensor on the motherboard, to using
the CompuNurse,
an external temperature probe. This probe is situated
right next to the CPU slug, so it provides the most precise
temperature reading as possible.
Our trusty old test rig is as follows:
-
IWill KK266 Socket A Motherboard
-
AMD Thunderbird 800Mhz CPU
-
Crucial PC133 CL2 Ram, 128MB
The test will consist of an idle
temperature check and a full load temperature check. The full
load will be accomplished by using the RC5
program and running 3DMark
2001 for 30 minutes.

We tried situating the fan without the
1cm stand offs between the fan and the heatsink. The switch
only helped by changing a fraction of the temperature so there is no
benefit in doing that.
Overall, this heatsink did not live up
to the GW name of being a high performance cooler. I was
seriously hoping that this unit would knock out the SK-6, but it was
a few degrees behind. Hopefully, their next design may include
more fins or a larger heatsink. Plus, I wish they will
redesign that clip! That seriously has to go!
If I was to recommend it, the selling
point is the affordability of this all copper cooler. At about
$35 USD and change, it is the cheapest copper unit available at the
moment.
Pros:
- Affordable
- All Copper!
- Very fast fan

Thanks to HighSpeed
PC for providing us with another fun unit to play with, give
them a visit why don't ya?!
