The unit is powered using your USB port. As soon as you plug it
in, it cycles through all 7 colors and then stops. You then need
to either push the button until you get to your desired color, or use
the last option, which is let the unit cycle through its colors
continuously.
Here are a few colors I preferred:

I like the mixed blue, which has some
red in it. The cycling feature is neat, but can get annoying
after a while.
Here is a video of the cycling feature
of the surface: LINK
The Fx Game Pad is slightly smaller
than my previous surface, the Ratpadz GS:

I tested the surface with a few rounds
of CS us an optical Logitech Mouseman. No signs of any
stuttering or jerking while moving. It is actually very smooth, even smoother than the Ratpadz GS. The only drawback is it is smaller, so a few times
I've had my mouse fall off the edge.
The novelty of course is the lighting
around the pad. I've noticed the lights are bright in certain
corners than others. Not a big deal as it is very bright in
the dark. Overall, this is a nice novelty item to give to your
fellow gaming/modding freak.
Pros:
- Smooth surface
- 7 colors to play with
- USB powered
Cons:
- Rubber button gets in your way
- Small dimension may give large handed people problems
- Lights are not evenly lit in some corners
