At this point in time, I've realized that EL tape is EL tape and what really distinguishes one company over another is the assembly process. How sturdy it is and how easy it is to install for the non-experienced person. This product does meet all of those requirements, which is a big plus. The only real negative is the sound that the inverter emits and even though most computer fans would drown it out. The products from BeingSeen and EL Custom Shop have extremely quiet inverters, so I'm not sure why Californeon would have one that isn't.
With that said, I'm sure a few people are interested in who makes the best EL "tape" product. Well my answer is all 3 companies make quality kits. They are all plug and play, no need for wiring or crimping, it's all very straight forward. Which makes this similar to picking a car from Pontiac, Oldsmobile, and Chevy with the same features and body types.
One of the big pluses of buying the Californeon product is, not only can you buy their product directly, but they also have their lines carried at several major retailers such as: Wal Mart, Pep Boys, Western Auto, Best Buy, and K Mart. There should be very little difficulty in finding their products anywhere in the US and Canada with those distribution channels.
Californeon is the lowest priced product thus far. I don't think you will find a complete ready to go kit from anyone for $24.95. This price should bode well for both Californeon's revenues but also for the consumers wallet.
Thanks to J.R. Zimmerman, President of Californeon for providing us with their Personal Computer LightStrip for review.
Pros:
- The lowest price solution that I am aware of
- 3m adhesive strip on back
- Fully assembled, ready to plug in
- Consistant color throughout
Cons:
- Inverter emits a high pitched tone
