-- BuffaloTech PC4200 256MB DDR
-- Price: ~$100.00 USD

Now lets take a look at the PCMark scores:

   PNY:

   Buffalo:

As you can see there is a 737 point increase.  Not too shabby.  Since my motherboard doesn't allow me to overclock I went ahead an tested 1024MB of PC3200 PNY memory to see how that stacked up against the modules from Buffalo Tech.  Here's the benchmarks:

   1024MB PNY PC3200

  • RAM Int: 4064
  • RAM Float: 4087

There isn't much difference there.  Here are the PCMark2002 results:

  • CPU: 5746
  • RAM: 7291
  • HDD: 979

Again, the 1024MB of PC3200 is slightly slower then the 512MB of PC4200.

If you're looking for the latest and greatest and can afford it this RAM is for you.  With CPU speeds still climbing there will always be the need for faster memory.  I would suggest picking some of this up if you're looking for an upgrade.

As always, when speeds are overclocked, you're results will vary.  Since PC4200 based boards are not as abundant as we wish in our testing lab, this test was held back in that aspect. At standard speeds, this ram performs just as we had expected and more.

Buffalo Tech memory is available at NewEgg.com.

  Pros:
  • Much larger bandwidth
  • Affordable
  • Dual Chan

  Cons:

  • None
