This is the only downside to having a parallel LCD.  There are many projects right now to make programs to control parallel LCD’s but only a few that have been released to the public.

Here is a list of programs that I have found that currently support parallel LCD’s:

  • LCDCenter – reads motherboard monitor info, email, basic winamp info, and other nifty features (needs work on the scroll function, its to fast).  (I can’t get this to install under win XP.)
  • LCD Smartie - I personally haven’t tried this one out…  Looks pretty pimp though
  • Lcd plugin - A very nice winamp plugin, designed for use to be an interface for a car mp3 player using parallel LCD’s.

And here is a list of programs that are currently being developed to support parallel LCD’s:

  • LCDriver 2.0 – this is what many consider to be the end all LCD solution, it basically acts as a driver and allows other application to interface with the LCD.  Should be very nice when its done. (please don’t email asking him when it will get done.)
  • Crystalline - Dunno much about this one either but should also be very good when its out.

For those of you that are impatient, there is another option for you.  You can buy what is known as a “serial backpack.”  Basically it allows you to use your parallel LCD with a serial adapter, thus allowing you to run all the current software that supports serial LCD’s for a fraction of the cost.

The following stores have serial backpacks for sale:

Note:  I have no experience with serial backpacks so your on your own.

I have taken some pictures with some of the various programs running to give you an idea of what you can accomplish.

Sadly, I couldn't take anymore pictures because my brother broke my LCD :( !!!
