When you hear LCD (liquid crystal display), you see a lot of numbers following a dollar sign.  Big names like Samsung, Viewsonic and numerous other manufacturers are beginning to roll out flat LCD based monitors to the masses.  One manufacturer who has been dealing with a lot of OEM and now retail monitor solutions is EPI.  We got a chance to take a look at one of their 15 inch models, the EN-5100.

The EN-5100 is an active matrix thin film transistor (TFT).  Thin film transistor was pioneered by Peter Brody back in the 70's.  To break it down into layman's terms, here is how most common LCDs differ from CRTs.  Each individual pixel on an LCD screen receives an individual voltage as opposed to a 'sweeping' method utilized by a CRT.  This results in a sharper and vibrant image on an LCD screen.  Hope I got that right, if not someone enlighten me : ) It has come a long way to being an affordable solution in comparison to conventional CRT displays.
