All in all, I just wasn't impressed with the EZ-Swap. The thing reeks of poor design and poor construction. Most notably is the lid for the hard drive cage and the release handle, both of which gave me serious problems. With a redesign, Vantec could have a serious winner on their hands, but right now its just not coming together. Plus, for the EZ-Swap to be particularly useful, you either need a second EZ-Swap in different computer, or a second hard drive cage.
I really liked the LCD and monitoring features, as well as the attractive price tag. All it needs is a decent cooling solution, a dedicated temp probe, snugger sound insulated cage, and redesigned latching mechanism. Add those things and I would be using the EZ-Swap rather than putting my Vortex back in its place.
Please note the release tab takes a significant amount of force to pull open. The first time I tried to shoot this clip, it released so suddenly and under so much force that my hand slipped and knocked the camera from about a foot away.
Its also important to note, that while this may seem obvious to some people, adding this device does not make your drives hot swappable. You must power down your computer before adding or removing any IDE device. I was a little shocked that Vantec doesn't mention that little vital tidbit anywhere in the documentation.
