  Today we will be taking a look at the Cendyne 48X12X48 CDRW.  These drives are usually available at Staples and Office Max with some kind of rebate offer.  Will these drives actually perform even with the low cost? Lets take a look...

   The manual and documentation that comes with the drive are simple and easy to understand. The CenDyne CD Mastering Software that comes with the drive is Nero Burning ROM version 5.5, from Ahead Software. The package includes an Integrated Device Electronics (IDE) cable to connect the drive to the motherboard. Screws to secure the drive to the case and audio cables were also provided in the package. The drive was set on slave mode, and was installed on the same IDE cable as the regular Compact Disk Read Only Memory (CDROM).

   The Personal Computer (PC) used for testing has an AMD XP1800+ CPU on an EPOX 8K5A motherboard with 256 Megabytes of Double Data Rate (DDR) PC2100 memory. The PC is equipped with two 80 gig Maxtor hard drives (HD) operating on a Redundant Array of Individual Devices (RAID). The operating system (OS) used was Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional with Service Pack 3 (SP3).
