If you weren't in a cave a while back, you may have hit the overclocking wagon with the original CPU king of overclocking, the Celeron 300a.  Fast forward a few years of development and we're here today at Intel's newer offering, the P4 1.6a Ghz.

Now the main benefit of the new Northwoods' is the addition of 512K of cache.  Previous P4s, socket 423 and 478 varieties, had pretty much had their asses handed to them when compared to the faster AMD Athlons.  With the .13 micron process on these Northwoods, higher speed P4s are going to be increasingly available.  We're going to be taking a look at the 1.6a version today.  Priced at about $160, but performs well over it.

With the introduction of the Northwood, we now have the i845 chipset, which now supports DDR ram.  While originally designed around Rambus memory, the P4 now has the ability to really tap into the DDR filled market.

While you may all be familiar with the normal reviewing routine, we're going to go a different route this time.  You know this chip is bone stock at 1600mhz (1.6ghz).  SO there's no need to display the obvious, we're going straight for the big piece of the pie, overclocking.
