A while ago, you may remember we reviewed a Laser Bay that had our our name carved in.  If you have bad memory, here's what it looked like:

The Laser Bay was originally powered by three (3) powerful red LEDs.  I decided to get rid of those and throw this CCFL in the there for some bright action.

The fit is about as perfect as it can get.  The tube reaches fully across the bay without any problems.  On the inside of that bay, are two notches that I'll be using to raise the CCFL up and behind the GideonTech cut out.  Not sure why those notches are there, but what the hell good thing they are because we're going to be using them.

Initial testing gives the tube a thumbs up, it lights up and is bright.  Had a hard time staring at it straight on, my eyes couldn't take it : (

There we go, bright blue GideonTech in our Laser Bay.  So bright even the top floppy drive got in on some of the action.  Not content with just putting it in the Laser Bay, we do some more positioning on this fine piece of 4" equipment.

That makes our front intake look like some freaky cave.  I positioned it right above the fan grills, those self adhesive velcro strips are mighty handy for this kind of work.

Overall, this kit is a nice addition to an already stocked case.  This 4" will probably not be enough light to really light up a window kit in my opinion, that's why ZXMods also sells full sized 12" tubes.  If you're looking to brighten up different spots in your case, like the front bezel, this is definitely something to look forward to.

Thanks to Greg at ZXMods for sending us a sample, we're going to go back and stare at it some more.

Pros:

  • Easy to install
  • Affordable
  • No messy wires to put together
  • Hard tube for protection

Cons:

  • Not much, perfect product as far as our initial testing goes.
