Now that I have just hacked away at my Antec KS188, huge gaping holes are now filled with loud obnoxious fans sucking and blowing harder than ever. Totally 5 fans plus some misc. slot fans, a lot of the precious molex are being daisy chained or simply wasted from the power supply. Plus, if you're one the insane people that like to buy fans by the bulk, molex connectors or even 3/4 pin connectors are rarely included in the fine package.
So what do most people do? Buy a bulk package of molex connectors! No, you get a fan bus from Cliff. So what's a fan bus? It's simply a fan power switching center. No more messy wires, no more running out of connectors, this is your one stop shop to a clean box. Now you can't just slap some wires here and there and expect everything to work. You have to figure out what voltage, how many amps, can my power supply take all this nonsense? I won't bore you with the math, you're just gonna see results.
So how much do these things cost? Beats the hell out of me, Cliff takes custom orders and makes them to your specification or something. Being the cheap bastard that I am, I read up his secret techniques and went to my nearest Radio Shack.
Here is the list of items that I purchased :
- Project Box 4 X 2 X 1 - $2.29
- (2) 4 Position Push Terminal (Black) - $1.59 ea.
12 Position Barrier Strip (White) - $1.99
- Hookup Wire (Red/Black) - $4.49
- A bag of heat shrink - $1.99 (You can use electrical tape to wrap the connected wires, but this looks nice)
Now on with the tools and supplies I will be using. Here they are :
- Dremel Multi-Pro Variable (I paid for it, and im determined to use it more than twice!)
- Soldering Iron
- Solder
- Hair Dryer
- Ruler
- Pencil
- Philips Screwdriver
- Panaflo 80mm fans with bare leads (means no molex connector)
