The fan utilizes the 12V line directly from the molex through the power supply.  Since there are LEDs, power drawn using a 3pin connect would have been too much.  The power wires are  wrapped in a braided cover to keep everything neat.  What is included also is a RPM monitor line that you can plug into your motherboard.

So what do these look like?

Without mounting them to a case, they look pretty good by itself.  The blue LED is not the brightest I've seen, but it shines decently with the help of the clear spinning fan blades.

I mounted the fan into our DesignComp DIY acrylic case:

The case held an Epox 8K7A motherboard with a 1.4Ghz Tbird.  There are no fans in the case, so with the addition of this fan it should at least show changes if there are any.  After a good 30 minutes of use, with the addition of the fan it dropped the case temperature a total of 1 degree.  That's right, it didn't do much in terms of cooling but it did shine bright in the appearance factor.

Although the noise level is about 30 decibels, its very quiet.  Even quieter than my Sunon 80mm that's rated less than 30dbA.

Overall, the fan is a nice novelty item to add to a case.  It won't win any cooling awards with its CFMs, so keep that in mind when making your purchase.  Aside from that, it is pretty amazing to look at.  It lights up evenly with the three LEDs and the spinning blades.  It helps create a swirling effect, very unqiue.  Antec also makes another version with 3 colors instead of just blue for an even crazier color combination.

Thanks to Lux-Design for sending us a sample, check them out for your Canadian cooling and modding needs.

  • Clear fan design
  • 3 evenly distributed blue LEDs
  • Wires wrapped in braided cover
  • RPM monitor cable included

  • Cons:

  • Does not cool well
  • Directional arrows are covered by the power strip
  • Might be a tad pricey for some
