AVC (Asia Vital Components) which operates also under Thermo-Link, has been in the cooling business since 98.  With 4 offices in the USA, Taiwan and China, I can see why they came up with the name AVC.

They sent over a nice small unit for us to test, the AVC Tundra.  Here are some specs:

  • Heatsink Dimension: 60X60X25mm

  • Fan: 60X60X10mm 4800rpm

  • Recommended for: AMD Athlon XP 1900+ up and All Duron Intel PIII 2 GHz

The finish on the unit is very clean, probably one of the cleanest we've seen so far.  The clip is also a bit different, in that it gives your thumb a bit more leverage.  No screw driver needed on this unit for our application.

They also call this their 'skive' design, like BitsPowers.  A bit similar, but not entirely.  The fan is held together by 4 metal beams.  I do have to mention that the fan is damn cool looking.  Now if they could only make the fan faster, then this may be able to contend for higher speed CPUs.

AVC decided to go with a square layer of thermal paste instead of using a thermal pad.  Going in the right direction, but what happens when you apply it on one cpu and you want to change later on?  They do not provide an extra blister pack of thermal grease, so this is a one application unit as far as I am concerned.

Also note, the 3 pin power cord from the fan is very short.  It measures about 17cm, so hopefully your 3pin connector isn't too far from the socket on your motherboard.
