Note: We have since changed our temperature measuring from using the onboard sensor on the motherboard, to using the CompuNurse, an external temperature probe.  This probe is situated right next to the CPU slug, so it provides the most precise temperature reading as possible.

This unit comes with a 30CFM fan, which we did not replace.  But we did test it using our 38CFM Delta also to see how it stacks up.

Our trusty old test rig is as follows:

  • IWill KK266 Socket A Motherboard

  • AMD Thunderbird 800Mhz CPU

  • Crucial PC133 CL2 Ram, 128MB

The test will consist of an idle temperature check and a full load temperature check.  The full load will be accomplished by using the RC5 program and running 3DMark 2001 for 30 minutes.

   Here are some results:

Even with the increase in fins, the unit still comes short of most of these coolers and its bigger brother.  It does come close and it isn't a bad cooler at all, don't get us wrong.  The extra care to update some of the features on this unit is much appreciated.  The new surface and extra fins are an added plus.  Aside from this, slapping on a faster 38CFM Delta does lower the temperature even more!  Although this is the case, this unit was not meant to utilize the ear splitting Delta but more towards a quieter cooling solution and we definitely approve of that.

Coming in at about $30 at most retailers, this smaller unit may be suited for some people who are looking for a smaller yet reliable cooler.  It goes right up there competing with the SVC GG, Dynatron Coolers and TT's Volcano line.  I would recommend this unit for most lower Ghz systems, but if you have one of those insane overclocks, you may want a bigger unit like this one's bigger brother, the CCK-6035D.  Or, get a higher speed Delta and replace the fan.

Thanks to Vantec for sending us over a test unit, good to see that they are improving on each individual unit they produce. Kudos!

  • Extra shine
  • Good clip
  • Lots of fins!
  • Super fast fan with fan guard

  • Cons:

  • Performs slightly behind most coolers, including its big brother
  • Smaller unit
