After reviewing the OCZ Gladiator and the ThermalRight SK-6, we went ahead and tested out the 'other' all copper heatsink, the GlobalWin CAK38.  Aside from all these ridiculous names and model numbers, we have a nice lineup of dependable aftermarket coolers.  Gone are the days of regular aluminum and 20CFM fans, we're talking all copper and nearly 40CFMs of goodness.

Having just reviewed the ThermalRight SK-6, which we were thoroughly pleased with, another cooler landed on our door step, this time provided by the folks at HighSpeed PC.  This time, a new offering (most likely not new by the time you read this) from one of the major heatsink manufacturers from Taiwan, Globalwin.  Made specifically for the Socket A design, it will fit on other sockets.  Here are some specs on this heavy unit:

   Specs:

  • Dimension: 60mm x 60mm x 35mm
  • Material: Copper C1100
  • Total weight: 450g

The unit also comes equipped with a black labeled GW fan, also known as the insanely powerful and loud Delta Fan.  Some specs on the included fan:

  • Fan Speed: 6800 RPM+/- 15%
  • Air Delivery: 37.6 CFM +/- 15 %
  • Noise Level: 46.5dB(A) !

If you mind the noise, this is not the right cooler combination for you.  This one fan is louder than 1/2 of my case fans combined.  Good thing this box is located in another room or else I would barely be able to fall asleep.

The cooler consists of 6 rows, each with 23 fins.  The unit comes with the fan grill to protect against lost of fingers that may come about from the high speed fan.  An odd part about this cooler is the gap between the fan and heatsink.  Not sure if the gap aids in the cooling of the unit or hinders the passing of maximum air flow over the fins.  We'll check both parts out and see how it goes.

The clip that comes with this unit is far from being perfect.  It caused a serious blister on my thumb from pushing down on it.  Don't let the edge fool you on that clip, it may be flat but that does not mean press hard on it!  Take some padding to your finger before doing any kind of work on it, take my word for it.

The bottom of the heatsink comes with a large dab of thermal grease.  Just peel the plastic away and it'll reveal the goop.  We did not even bother with it, wiped it off within a minute and prepped it for Arctic Silver.  This unit requires no assembly, unlike the SK6, so installation is very straight forward.
