To combat this cooler, we pitted our OCZ Gladiator to this unit, another copper heatsink.  We didn't want to compare it to an aluminum unit due to the fact copper dissipates heat a lot better from what we have seen.  Giving it a slight advantage, material wise to other units.

Note: We have since changed our temperature measuring from using the onboard sensor on the motherboard, to using the CompuNurse, an external temperature probe.  This probe is situated right next to the CPU slug, so it provides the most precise temperature reading as possible.

For our test, we will be installing this unit into our old faithful test rig:

  • IWill KK266 AMD TB/Duron Motherboard
  • AMD TBird 800Mhz
  • Crucial PC133 128mb Ram

The test will consist of an idle temperature check and a full load temperature check.  The full load will be accomplished by using the RC5 program and running 3DMark 2001 for 30 minutes.  The fan was situated blowing into the heatsink, which is suggested by our provider.

   Here are the results logged:

OCZ Gladiator

Idle

Full Load

Ambient Temp. 27C 27C
AMD Tbird 800 35C 37C
AMD Tbird 800 @ 1003
1.85V

ThermalRight SK-6

Ambient Temp. 27C 27C
AMD Tbird 800 31C 34C
AMD Tbird 800 @ 1003

Whoa...I am truly impressed with this unit!  ThermalRight, a new company that kind of came out of no where (from what I gather) produced a truly efficient unit!  This unit is going to become our heatsink that will be remain in our system for the time being!

Thanks again to the fine folks at Heatsink Factory for providing us with this great unit.  Go get some stuff at the Factory!

Pros:

  • All Copper!
  • Easy to use fan clip
  • Performs great in the price range

  • Cons:

    • Tough motherboard clip
