Almost everyone in the modification scene uses some kind of fan control on his or her PC, usually in the form of a rheobus or something similar.  Unfortunately,  these devices are just too simple to be effective in some situations.  Today we will be taking a look at something that Sidewinder Computers was nice enough to send over, the DigitalDoc5 by Macpower Peripherals.

Basically, the DD5 is a device that sits inside a 5.25" bay and monitors temperatures, fan speeds, and voltages.  It can also adjust fans using information provided by the temperature probes.  This is useful for applications where the fan only needs to run when the temperature exceeds a certain level.

Here is a quick rundown of the features:

  • Support for large fans up to 12 Watts
  • Monitors temps from 0 to 100 degrees Celsius
  • Monitors +5 and +12 lines and can warn of voltage problems
  • Saves settings on a EEPROM chip, so you donít ever have to reenter your settings
  • Installs in a 5.25Ē bay opening
  • Easy override settings for fans and alarms

Alrighty, lets crack this nut open.
