Another use for the unit is the desktop mode.  Flip the unit around and you will find a support arm that allows you to raise the typing angle in 5 different inclines.  You may also use this on your lap, it helps in preventing cramps when using the "toe push method" of supporting your laptop on your legs.  It decreases the need to constantly keep your laptop level, allowing you to type without any problems.

KDS Valiant P3 800Mhz Laptop

I strapped a CompuNurse thermal probe to the underside of our KDS Valiant laptop.  This should give a good indication whether or not this Laptop Desk works.  The laptop ran Dnetc for about 30 minutes, we then began running a DVD movie.  As some of you laptop owners may know, the DVD drive gets the temperature up while it is operating.  After 30 minutes of playing our disc, we took a record of the temperature.

That is a bit higher than I would like.  If you received that type of temperature on your processor, you may just go out and buy a better heatsink right?  So we placed the laptop on the Laptop Desk at the highest incline, ran the movie again for 30 minutes and recorded the temperature:

Not too bad, slight drop in temperature after raising the laptop onto the desk.  The desk itself was a bit warm to the touch, but definitely not something as hot as 39.7 C.

Overall, this laptop accessory is useful at home and on the road.  I personally prefer the inclined position functionality of the unit.  It makes typing a lot easier on the wrist.  The added benefit of a non-skid surface definitely helps prevent accidental drops.

  • No more hot legs
  • Two methods of using
  • Non-skid surface
  • Light weight

  • Cons:

  • Not much of a temperature drop
  • When expanded, sides are not ideal for mobile mouse movement
