   After using the stock Intel P4 cooler for some time, as well as the AVC Sunflower, it was time to move on.  ThermalTake once again has come out with a new heatsink for the P4 user, the Spark 7.

   Here are some specs from the TT site:

   The heatsink itself is made entirely of copper.  The bottom of the unit is polished to a nice shine.  There were a few scratches, but those should not cause any issues.

   The unit uses the same Smart Fan that is also used on their Volcano series of heatsinks.  The fan offers always on, pot control and temperature auto control.  My usual choice is the pot (dial) control.  It lets the user determine how fast or slow the fan will spin at any given time.

   What I think is the major selling point of this unit is the locking mechanism use to secure the heatsink to the motherboard.  It is the easiest thing I have used since!  There is no need to forcefully move any plastic bars into notches.  Just two removable bars that grasp over the four notches is all that's need to keep this monster in place.

   I tested this unit on my P4 2.26 @ 2.822 Ghz box.  I was originally using a stock cooler and an AVC Sunflower.  With everything at max speed, the P4 Spark 7 dropped temperatures about 4 degrees cooler at idle when compared to the stock heatsink!  At idle speeds with fans at full speed, it notched a 35.5C mark.  At full speed, 39.4C!

   The only downside is that with it at full speed, it has a horrendous whine.  Using the speed adjustment tool will greatly aid in limiting the noise when not needed.
