Here are the numbers from our tests:
|Windows Network Transfer|
|Windows FTP Transfer|
|Linux FTP Transfer||
|Average Data Transfer Rate|
Interesting in every test the DS1216 preformed better with network traffic than without. You also can note the very large increase in transfer rates from windows to Linux, with 3 times more through put than windows.
Sisoft Network Bench:
Another interesting set of tests, it is exactly the same as their reference bench. Does Sisoft actually bench networks, or do they just detect your setting and say, yeah you can run at this?

Wow! The theoretical max throughput of a 100 Full duplex device is 25 Meg/s that both sending and receiving at 12.5 Megs/s. As you can see this switch has a very high throughput, 12.0176 Meg/s outgoing and 11.362Meg/s incoming with a total throughput of 23.3974 Meg/s. Plus, never once did the collision light blink!
MAC address refresh:
From what we could see the Mac address buffer was refreshed instantly when you plugged a cable into a port. This did cause a 250K/s drop in the network throughput but it quickly returned to normal.
Final Comments and Conclusions:
Overall, I am very happy with the DS1216. It preformed great and is relatively inexpensive considering what it brings to the plate. The network throughput on this switch is amazing!
Compex may be a company that not many of us have heard before but they are definitely producing some quality products. I look forward to seeing more of their networking units in the future.
